What To Expect In Windows 8

New Windows 8 Task Manager
Windows 8 refers to the next version of Microsoft Windows after Windows 7. Scheduled for release around 2012. The Operating System is said to include support for system-on-a-chip and mobile ARM processors.

Some of the other expected features include:

1. 128-Bit Support

Taking into consideration, how slow the adoption of 64-bit operating systems has been, we doubt 128-bit support will be over the top for those
needing high-end computing resources.

2. Portable Workspace

Recent reports have suggested that one will be able to use this feature to run Windows 8 from a USB Stick.

3. Improved Task Manager

Microsoft have altered the Task Manager with a new improved feature that will make it much easier to know which programs are not functioning appropriately and why.

4. 3D Support

Windows 8 will include support for 3D. Companies like Lenovo already offer laptops with 3D displays and HTC just announced the EVO3D smartphone with glass-less 3D support.

5. ARM / Tablet support

Microsoft has officially announced ARM support earlier this year meaning that the OS will run on tablet computers, and maybe even smart phones.

6. App Store

Microsoft already has a Windows Phone 7 store, so this will likely be an extension.

7. Facial Recognition

Although this feature has been made available through third party apps, the Facial recognition from Windows will be able to switch user profiles automatically based on who is looking at the screen for the sole purpose of logging in.

8. Faster Startup Time

Microsoft is working on boosting its startup speed. Windows 8 will show you what is slowing down startup and if, eg removing a certain application will assist. Furthermore, pre-boot recovery environment will be a combination of safe mode and 'last known good configuration' with the aim of removing viruses and malware.
